The Importance of Teamwork

Mostly Organized Dispatch

Hello Friend, and Happy Thursday!

Last week, I was in Ottawa attending a team retreat for my day job. And even if today marks my 19th year in this job, I’m still not tired of our team meet-ups.

🤯 Excuse me, what? 19 years!! That doesn’t even compute in my own head! 🤯

Every time, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to have these colleagues. Some stay just a little bit, some for a very long time, and some leave for a time and come back, but they all share a desire to make a difference in our clients' lives through our multitude of events and programs.

That reminded me of the importance of teamwork in decluttering and organizing, because sometimes, when you feel stuck, all you need is someone to brainstorm solutions with or to shoulder the workload together.

So let’s explore some ways you can include people in your efforts 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻.

Hope you’re having a great start to your summer,

Caroline

Tips From A Pro Organizer

🔆 TIP | Decluttering Tip From A Professional Organizer: Teamwork: Ask a Friend

Remember when we used to invite a couple of trusted girlfriends over, do a try-on of all our clothes, and let them decide what to keep and what was definitely time to donate? No? Just me?

Well, if you’ve never done that, I highly recommend. Nothing like the keen eye of a good friend to let you know that that colour is really not great on you, or that the dress you bought and have never worn, because “you have nowhere to go“, is now part of your rotation of most-worn outfits.

Asking for help, from a friend or from a pro, is not always easy, but it's worth it when you feel stuck.

📌 HABIT | Small Habit To Help You Get Organized: Teamwork: Lead By Example

There is a part of teamwork that not a lot of people talk about: who’s gonna lead?

When you have less-than-eager teammates, the only thing you can do is lead by example.

OK, let’s be honest, I’m talking about your children or spouse here 🤣!

Focus on your own stuff and responsibilities, and create calm for yourself in these specific spaces. There is a good chance that your teammates will notice positive changes and want to join in.

🧩 MINDSET | Clear Your Mind And Get a New Perspective: Teamwork: Delegating

As a doer and working most of the time remotely on my own, I often forget that I can ask my teammates for assistance and delegate some tasks to them.

It happened last summer, as we were in the thick of things during the event I manage. I was about to try and cram another task when my brain went duh!, I can ask my coworker for some help! And the best part? They were ready to jump right in. It 👏🏻Was 👏🏻 Liberating!

I see this behaviour also in clients. When I mention that maybe they could ask their partner to take charge of this one specific thing they're dreading, I can see the light in their eyes, and their shoulders relax as they remember they are not alone in this.

📣 Cheeky reminder that working with you as a team is what we do as Professional Organizers.
