Done with Planning a Whole Year and Arbitrary Deadlines!
Mostly Organized Dispatch
Hello and Happy New Year!!
I know we’re already in the middle of January, but I didn’t want to add to the cacophony of the New Year, New Me, with plans to tackle 47 goals and priorities!
Do you like to make New Year’s resolutions? Personally, I’m kind of over it! Especially if everything has to start on January 1st and I have to plan more than a few months in advance. I’m done trying to plan my whole year in one go, and with arbitrary deadlines.
Lately, I’m more interested in working on a few habits and projects at a time. I’m still figuring out what the next few months will entail, but so far I know that I want to:
✅ Plan a birthday trip with cozy vibes
✅ Read 55 books, since I’m turning 55
✅ Try Morning Pages
That’s it, that’s all I got so far, and I feel like that’s enough to get me started. I have inklings of other things I want to work on this year, but I’ll plan them later.
Below are more tips for finally making your habits stick.
Until next time,
Caroline

Tips From A Pro Organizer
🔆 TIP | Decluttering Tip From A Professional Organizer: Make It Easy and Small
Start with the simplest version of the habit, something impossible to skip: 5 minutes on the stationary bike, one sun salutation, etc. Make it so small that you will absolutely do it.
Remove (or declutter) the obstacles that are in the way of your habits and goals.
If you want to get into journaling at the end of the day, for example, set a reminder to go to bed 10 minutes earlier, and keep your journal on your nightstand.
You want to declutter more? Set up a donation bin to drop off items as you come across them.
The other thing you can do is tack the habit you want onto another habit you already do easily. Like connecting with your breath while your coffee is brewing. Or tidying the living room for 5 minutes right before you go brush your teeth.
📌 HABIT | Small Habit To Help You Get Organized: Make It Fun
Want to stretch more (that’s one of mine), but having a hard time finding the time? Do something else fun at the same time, like watching a show you like. When you add something fun to look forward to, suddenly you can find the time 😉.
My go-to is almost always an audiobook. I’m trying to finish Onyx Storm right now (not sure how I feel about it⚡️).
🧩 MINDSET | Clear Your Mind And Get a New Perspective: Experiment
Sometimes the thing that’s stopping us is the lack of knowledge. We don’t know whether we’ll like something or be prepared for the work it requires. So it’s hard to commit. We don’t have a reason compelling enough to keep us going. But then, we’re still curious about a goal or a habit, so why not test it out?
Take one class. Do the thing for one week. Set up a 30-day challenge. An experiment is lower-stakes than a goal and allows more flexibility.
